Description
Dr. Charisse Beaumont is CEO of Black Lives in Music (BLiM), founded in 2020 to champion equality for Black and ethnically diverse musicians. Since then, she has helped deliver ground-breaking research, including Being Black in the UK Music Industry, and worked to drive systemic change across the music sector. In addition to her role at BLiM, Charisse serves on the Licensing Taskforce for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), sits on the boards of Help Musicians and LIVE, and is a member of the advisory committee for WarChild UK. She is also a founding member of REMEL (Race Equality in Music Events Licensing), working alongside the Greater London Authority and the Mayor of London. During her leadership, BLiM launched Classically Black, the UK’s first classical music festival dedicated to platforming underrepresented talent. Charisse’s contributions have been widely recognised: she was named to Music Week’s Women in Music Roll of Honour in 2022, awarded an honorary Doctorate of Music by the University of West London in 2023, and received Campaigner of the Year at the Music Week Women in Music Awards 2024.
