Jeanie Finlay is a British artist and documentary filmmaker known for intimate, award-winning stories that reach global audiences. Her latest film, Your Fat Friend, premiered at Tribeca and won the Audience Award at Sheffield DocFest, leading to a bold international release.
She’s directed films for HBO, IFC, and the BBC, including four for BBC Storyville—among them The Great Hip Hop Hoax and Orion: The Man Who Would Be King.
From a transgender man’s (extra) ordinary pregnancy in Seahorse, to Teesside’s last record shop in Sound It Out, to the final season of Game of Thrones in her Emmy-nominated The Last Watch, Jeanie brings care, grit, empathy and humour to stories often left untold and her work has garnered Emmy, BIFA, Grierson wins and nominations.
Jeanie is a pioneer of creative distribution and a Chicken & Egg Awardee, with retrospectives of her work at Criterion, MOMI NYC, BFI, True Story and Big Sky Documentary Film Festival. A member of AMPAS, Bafta and FWD Doc.
