Description
Lighthouse Choir was formed by Liverpool Lighthouse over Zoom during the Covid-19 pandemic. Originally, the choir was created with twin aims – to connect a community of people to support their wellbeing through lockdown and to honour a promise made to the Hillsborough families and survivors to record the songs that their sister choir, Love & Joy Gospel Choir had performed over 20 years at the Hillsborough Memorial Services.
The EP created out of this was Songs of Healing, from which 5 tracks, You’ll Never Walk Alone, Wind Beneath My Wings, Abide With Me, Amazing Grace and Lean On Me have now been released and can be found on all major streaming platforms.
They have also attracted national attention, including being recorded for the Eurovision coverage on BBC1, featuring on Songs of Praise, BBC Radio 4, national news, performing live on Comic Relief with Paloma Faith and being filmed for ITV’s National Lottery’s New Year’s Eve Big Bash.
Their sister choir Love and Joy Gospel Choir was formed in 1987 by Dr. Tani Omideyi, and has for many years been at the forefront of building relationships with communities both locally and around the United Kingdom. With a unique mix of voices, this choir has performed repertoire of well-known and self-written gospel songs with various appearance on national and international broadcasts including BBC, Granada, Sky and sung on local and national radio including BBC’s World Service. They have been hosted by variety of gospel meetings, weddings, major corporate events, launches, including the Memorial Service for Princess Diana at the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, the Summer Pops Festival at Liverpool’s Albert Dock, St. Michael’s cave in Gibraltar and also performed at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. Famous for writing the theme song for Liverpool’s Capital of Culture bid, ‘We’ve got the go’, Love & Joy Gospel Choir also performed it in the House of Commons and were a part of the Culture Company’s promotion of music from Liverpool featured in Belgium. The Beatles classic and BBC Music Live anthem ‘All you Need Is Love’ was performed by the choir alongside former chart-topping local band The Christians.
Both choirs are led by award-winning Choir Director, Anu Omideyi and have gone from strength to strength, developing a local reputation for uplifting and moving performances of songs of hope, love, joy, faith and unity, with a repertoire drawn from both the gospel and pop canon.
