Description
Step into the magnificent Christchurch Spitalfields—Nicholas Hawksmoor's Baroque masterpiece—for a transformative week-long immersive exhibition exploring the powerful influence of Caribbean diaspora artists on London's vibrant cultural landscape.
"Beautiful Collisions" celebrates the dynamic intersections between church and dancehall, image and music, kinship and community. At its center are Denzil Forrester's vibrant paintings capturing the energy of East London's reggae and dub nightclub scene from the 1980s and 1990s, surrounded by extraordinary works from some of today's most compelling contemporary artists.
Featured artists include Alberta Whittle's meditation on Black womxn's experiences, Alvaro Barrington's new works alongside special performances by Emelda's Junction with Errol and Alex Rita's Touching Bass, Zinzi Minott's latest Fi Dem iteration commemorating Empire Windrush, and special contributions by Tavares Strachan and Runkus.
Throughout the week, you can enjoy a store and cafe, serving Caribbean inspired food and drinks alongside a library and other items to be announced.
Experience this groundbreaking convergence of visual arts, community, and music—a testament to the beautiful collision of cultures that defines both SXSW and London's artistic soul.
