Arts Council England Mixer - From the Ground Up: Shining a Spotlight on the UK's XR and Immersive Sector

Three XR Experience awards at SXSW Austin in the last three years (for Proof As If Proof Were Needed, Soul Paint, and Consensus Gentium) show how UK immersive artists have been taking the world by storm. In London in 2024, over a million people danced the night away at Abba Voyage, and immersive installation venue, the Outernet, became the city's most popular visitor attraction, overtaking the Natural History Museum and British Museum. But despite these incredible success stories, it remains a challenge for artists of all backgrounds to access the resources and support needed to create XR and immersive works. It is equally hard for immersive artists to tour and share their work with audiences at scale. In this panel, UK funders, producers and artists will talk about the UK scene, hustle culture, and what is needed now to sustain an inclusive, international, immersive ecosystem.
